Move over Omega—this watch was also engineered for, and used on, the lunar surface. Featuring a striking black dial and smaller 43mm case, the Lunar Pilot makes a serious claim for best chronograph under $1000. The MSRP seems high, but look on the secondhand market to save up to 50% off of it and get a watch that's already a steal at...more of a steal.
Released in 2015 to commemorate the discovery (and subsequent auction) of Dave Scott's original Bulova 88510/01 prototype, the Lunar Pilot was an immediate hit. Sporting a unique 265Hz quartz movement that echoes the original's automatic movement at a fraction of the cost of a typical mechanical chrono—though it eats batteries like nobdy's business—the Lunar Pilot scratches the moonwatch itch for those who aren't looking to make their wrist a target for thieves.
Originally sized at a...robust 45mm, a 2020 revision brought the size down to a much more manageable 43mm.
